"I 'stumbled' on this title and was attracted to it as I am a Jack Reacher fan. Loved the story and the author's writing style. Couldn't wait for more so I purchased [Raw Justice] and want more Jennifer Lane - please?! Fatal Distraction is also on my to read list!"
"I have been a Reacher fan for years and was excited when I heard of Diane Capri's take on 'Finding Reacher'. Deep Cover Jack Hunting Lee Child Jack Reacher The Hunt For Jack Reacher Series Book 7 edition by Diane Capri Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
Deep Cover Jack—Diane CapriDeep Cover Jack picks up FBI Special Agents Kim Otto and Carlos Gaspar’ assignment on the Special Personnel Task Force of vetting Jack Reacher for an unknown government mission. This is the 6th novel in the series, which spans real time, about at this point about eight weeks.
When I have discussed these novels with friends, concerns regarding the ability of each novel to stand on its own AND the necessity of being even somewhat familiar with the parallel Reacher novel are expressed. Capri, who does have what seems to be a carte blanc from Childs to use his characters, is quite skillful in splicing sufficient details of her own Search for Reacher back story and the Reacher novel settings portrayed in the current Kim and Carlos episode that one does not NEED to have read either one. I think you will find, however, you will WANT to read both.
In Deep Cover Jack, Otto and Gaspar become involved with a crew of former and current ATF/DEA agents, cops and assorted others with whom Reacher cooperated in an off-the books sting at an isolated Maine estate nearly a decade prior to the current action. One of the players then had gone over the edge in a private vendetta busting human traffickers and had been captured.
One of the…well…good guys…had much information on Reacher; Otto and Gaspar, hungry for information, traded their help to the very off-the-books operation to retrieve their former comrade-in-arms from the estate.
What, you thought I was going to give away the plot? Not likely. And here is why you should get this book…and all the Search for Reacher books RIGHT NOW!
Diane Capri has several crime series out right now and is winning awards. She knows her craft…and she knows her art. The writing is crisp and she has a knack with dialogue…I am guessing she has been permitted to listen to cops, state and federal agents and members of the military (primarily Army) and has the short-hand language down; the conversations between equals has verisimilitude; the approaches used with civilians varies between gentle for information-gathering and pungent with suspects.
Characters are well-formed. Kim Otto is a CPA and a lawyer, working out of the Detroit office, who thinks she WILL beDirector of the FBI, drinks coffee like Reacher but has acid production like a pickle factory; she has been through her grandmother’s final illness. We know she is deadly with her Glock. Carlos, senior to Otto, is second agent on this assignment—we haven’t yet been told. Ex-military (hints have been dropped he was an MP, same as Reacher), he was badly injured in in a shoot-out and for the most part had be riding a desk in the Miami office until this assignment. He’s married with a very pregnant wife, four daughters and pretty much lives in pain. Their boss has a name and their loyalty. One of the characters from the inaugural Reacher novel has risen to rather lofty heights and is called for help sometimes.
The plot is solid and, in my opinion, piggy-backs on the Reacher arc in “Persuader” set in the same locale. Capri has the two FBI agents working with the prior crew with the essentially the same traction Reacher did…keep in mind that both Reacher worked with and the FBI team are working with essentially the same people for completely different objectives—perfect example of ends justifies the means.

Deep Cover Jack Hunting Lee Child Jack Reacher The Hunt For Jack Reacher Series Book 7 edition by Diane Capri Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I am assuming that most reader's, like me, started reading Diane Capri because they were big fans of Lee Child and Jack Reacher. Her stories flesh out Jack with insights revealed by Otto's search for Jack. I felt that Gaspar seemed to play a different role in this book, definitely second to Otto. I liked it but still appreciate the repartee. The story line is crisp, on target and engrossing. It makes me want to re read the next one NOW! Can't put them down
Another tense and fast moving installment in the Hunt For Reacher series. This one is centered around the same location as in Child's Persuader novel, Abbot Cape and you see the return of Reacher's old friend Susan Duffy & Retired Agent Villanueva.
Agents Otto & Gaspar are sent to speak to Duffy and find that she is suspended from the ATF and missing. They find she has gone to Abbott Cove and could be in some real trouble there. Hooking up with Branch, Duffy's ATF partner & Villanueva they go looking for her. As you would expect they get much more than they bargained for.
I can't say much more without filling it with spoilers, but do read this book, it will keep you up biting your nails to the end.
Plot very slow to develop. Too much in the way of discussions amongst the characters. Very slow moving. Reacher did not appear in the book, but was merely mentioned throughout. This is a pathetic attempt to capitalize on the popularity of Lee Child's Jack Reacher character. Sorry I wasted my time.
Another gripping and intense novel by Diane Capri with Otto and Gaspar searching for the elusive Jack
Reaper. Will Otto and Gaspar find him? If so, what will the relationship between Kim and Jack develop into?
Each chapter brings forth more questions...what's coming next.
Diane, you have an amazing way of arranging thoughts into words, words into sentences, sentences into
paragraphs, paragraphs into pages, pages into chapters, chapters into novels, and novels into so many hours
of very enjoyable reading.
Diane is so gifted in knowing the subject matter of her novels and has a way that captivates your mind in her
descriptive pages from start to end.
I Can't wait for the next book in this series.

I came to read these books primarily because of my infatuation with the Reacher novels. One of the things that I was not enamored with Diane's previous Search for Jack Reacher books was they seem to be a little thin on details and a little short. I assume because of agreements with Reacher's primary author you will never get first hand Reacher involvement, but I like this one better than the previous books by Diane Capri. Maybe I'm prejudice for a strong imposing male hero so I don't appreciate the diminutive stature agent Otto as a force to be reckoned with.
Special FBI Agents Kim Otto and her partner, Carlos
Gaspar are still on the trail of Jack Reacher.
They are sent to Houston, Texas to find ATF Agent,
Susan Duffy.
Susan is a known associate of Reacher and they want
to interview her to hopefully get answers. But it seems
Susan’s whereabouts is unknown. While searching Susan’s
apartment, the agents run into a former partner of hers.
Hearing a recording on the answering machine of a woman
in distressing, they determine Susan headed to a place on
named Abbey Cape outside of Portland, Maine. Off they go!!
Now the intriguing adventure begins….There is plenty of
suspense, thrills and chills with unexpected twists.
The tension was thick and well-sustained with a colorful
array of interesting characters.
This is the seventh book in The Hunt for Reacher Series
but can be read as a stand alone.
Enjoyable, exciting read!!
Thank you to the author for this eBook. My opinion is my own.
